Choctaw Nation Peacemaking Act
Section 1. Title
Section 2. Creation and purpose
A. The District Court of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is hereby authorized to utilize
peacemakers, which shall be a division of the District Court of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma
and which shall operate in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Choctaw people.
B. The purpose of Choctaw Nation Peacemakers Act is to provide a forum for the use of traditional
Choctaw methods of peacemaking to resolve disputes in a fair, informal, and inexpensive manner.
C. Any ambiguity in this act shall be liberally construed to carry out its purpose of encouraging
traditional Choctaw methods of dispute resolution without formal court proceedings.
D. The District Court of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma shall have the authority to assign cases
to and supervise the activities of any peacemaker appointed pursuant to this act.
