For a Child Who Killed Their Child, Parents Chose Restorative Justice

This piece from The Crime Report by Waveny Ann Moore details a case where the parents of a child who was killed decided to pursue a restorative justice approach. It includes a quote from the NCORJ’s Lindsey Pointer:

“That decision, said Lindsey Pointer, associate director for the National Center on Restorative Justice “offers a promising shift in the way we think about crime and the meaning of justice.”

Pointer, an assistant professor at the Center for Justice Reform at Vermont Law School continued: “Our criminal legal responses so often cause additional harm to responsible parties and harmed parties … Restorative justice allows us to respond to significant harm in a way that considers the broader context and the needs of the individuals involved and focuses on repairing harm to the extent possible.””
